ADBASE

Emailer

  1. ADBASE has created an online tutorial for Emailer that will provide you with step by step instructions for creating and sending your Email Campaign, as well as viewing response statistics and creating follow-up lists. Please note that new features are being added to Emailer on a regular basis. If a feature you wish to use is not included in the tutorial, contact Customer Support for assistance.
Click the link below to launch the Emailer Tutorial:
  2. ADBASE Emailer works with the following browsers that are available as free downloads:

    Mac
    Mozilla Firefox 3.5+
    Safari 3.0+

    PC
    Mozilla Firefox 3.5+
    Internet Explorer 7.0+

    Download Firefox >
    Download Internet Explorer >
  3. Yes. Your My Contacts list will be available for selection with your ADBASE lists on the Delivery Options page.
  4. Yes. Emailer will compare the email addresses in your private data against your ADBASE lists and remove duplicates prior to sending.
  5. Emailer supports JPG, GIF and PNG file formats.
  6. Yes. Once you add a Featured Image to your email campaign click Resize. You will then see options to resize your image, add a caption, watermark, or Alt text.
  7. Yes. From the Emailer home page click Open Image Library. Click the Upload New tab. You may then upload up to five images simultaneously.
  8. It is important to keep the overall size of your Email Campaign as small as possible. Contacts may be less likely to open or click-through on your Email Campaign if it takes too long for the images to load. By reducing the amount of images and files sizes you may increase the open and click-through rate of your campaign.
  9. When creating or editing your images with photo software such as Adobe Photoshop be sure to save them as web ready or web safe images. This will ensure compatibility when using them with Emailer. You should also preview your images using a web browser such as Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer prior to uploading them to the Emailer image library. This will provide you a realistic preview of how your image will appear when viewed in an email program or web browser.

Your image may also appear differently if you resized it within Emailer. Emailer’s resize function can help you determine the best size for your image. However, we recommend that you use an image editing program such as Adobe Photoshop to resize your image. This will ensure the best possible image quality.

To prevent Emailer from resizing your image automatically click Resize beside your image thumbnail on the Content tab. If there is a checkmark beside the text Use recommended size for this layout, remove the checkmark and drag the image size ticker to the far left. Your image will then be displayed at the original size.
  10. If you are using the original size of the uploaded file the metadata will be retained. However, if you resize your image in Emailer the embedded metadata will be lost.
  11. From below the Preview pane click Send a Test at any time as you are creating or editing an Email Campaign. You can add as many as five email addresses to your Test Group at one time. Please note that you will not be able to send a test to an existing ADBASE contact.
  12. From the Emailer home page click Profile. You may then make changes to the Default “From Name” or “From Email”. Be sure that this information is accurate as all replies will be delivered to this email address. If this is a permanent change you can contact ADBASE Customer Support to change the information on your account.
  13. From the Emailer home page select Compose Email. On the Summary page enter the name of the Email Campaign you would like to create. Select Copy a previously created email and then choose the email you wish to copy. If you use this option, the style, structure, images, and content will be copied to your new email campaign.
  14. To upload your own HTML content open Emailer and click Compose Email. Provide a name for your campaign and then choose Provide my own HTML. On the next page you will be able to upload your HTML code.
  15. Each email client and internet browser renders HTML code differently and there may occasionally be minor inconsistencies. To minimize this impact, we recommend following the HTML conventions outlined below.

    - Always use inline styles instead of an embedded CSS style sheet
    - Structure your HTML as a table instead of using the “div” tag (the “div” tag can cause blank spaces and gaps)
    - Keep your code simple. Avoid excessive use of CSS (especially layout-related CSS, such as padding)
    - For testing purposes, send test copies of your Email Campaign to different email addresses and email clients. If you notice differences, troubleshoot your HTML code and try testing again
  16. ADBASE Customer Support can review your HTML code and provide troubleshooting advice if you encounter validation errors during the upload process. Unfortunately, we are not able to create, edit or rewrite your HTML code for you.

If you would like to create an Email Campaign using your own custom HTML code but are not experienced with HTML design for Email Campaigns, we recommend working with an experienced designer. Otherwise, you may create an Email Campaign using an ADBASE template.
  17. Some recipients who cannot view HTML emails will be able to view your Email Campaign as plain text. For this reason, all emails must have a plain-text version.
  18. From below the Preview pane click View Full-Size at any time as you are creating or editing your Email Campaign. Your preview will appear in a pop-up window. If the preview does not appear disable any pop-up blockers in your browser settings and try again.
  19. Each Email Campaign you create can have its own style (pre-set colors and borders). You can select from a catalogue of ADBASE styles (Built-in Styles) or create your own template (Custom Styles). You may also modify a Built-in Style by selecting it, then clicking the Customize button below the list of templates.
  20. You can include personalization fields in the subject line or text areas of your Email Campaign. Place your cursor where you want to insert the field and click the Personalization button. You will then be able to select which fields you would like to include in your Email Campaign. Please note it is not recommended to include a personalization field within the subject line of your campaign.
  21. From the Emailer home page select Sent. Your Sent Email Campaigns will appear. To the right of the campaign you wish to view click Statistics and then click the Recipient Lists tab. The lists you selected for the Email Campaign will appear. You can click each individual list to view the recipients contained within the list.
  22. Once you have created your Email Campaign and selected the lists you will be sending click Return to Summary on the Delivery Options page. On the Summary page click Schedule This Email to be Sent. Select Send this email immediately to send the campaign now, or select Send this email on this date to schedule your Email Campaign to send at a later date and time. Please note we recommend to always send yourself a test before sending/scheduling your campaign.
  23. Soft bounces usually indicate a temporary issue, such as a full inbox. Hard bounces indicate more serious delivery issues such as an incorrect email address. A hard bounce may also indicate a contact that has opted out from receiving ADBASE emails. Bounces do not count against your email quota.
  24. When an email cannot be delivered successfully due to an initial bounce you may receive a delivery error at the email address you specified in the campaign’s Delivery Options. You can forward all delivery error emails to bounces@adbase.com and we will credit the bounced emails back to you. Our Research Department investigates bounced emails to determine whether corrections are required. If the delivery error was caused by a soft bounce instead of a hard bounce Emailer will automatically make several attempts to resend your campaign to these contacts. Please note that delivery errors are not the same as submit errors and are not eligible for Amazon gift certificate rewards.
  25. Emailer utilizes throttling technology. Throttling slows down the sending of your Email Campaign but increases the chances for successful delivery. Although it may appear at times that your Email Campaign has stopped sending, or is sending very slowly, Emailer is sending in intervals to decrease the risk that your emails are identified as spam. An Email Campaign will not move to your Sent folder until all emails have been delivered.
  26. Yes. From the Delivery Options tab within Emailer select the option Don’t Deliver After Hours. With this option enabled Emailer will only attempt to send your Email Campaign between the hours of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Note that selecting this option may increase the amount of time it takes Emailer to successfully deliver your Email Campaign.
  27. Yes. Click Opt-Outs on the Emailer menu bar. Enter the email address of the contact you would like to opt out of your mailing lists and then click Submit.
  28. If the campaign is in Pending status click Pending to view your Email Campaign. Then click the name of the Pending Email Campaign to view response data. If your Email Campaign has finished sending click Sent to view your sent Email Campaigns. A list of all sent Email Campaigns will appear with a summary of response data. To view detailed response data for any of your campaigns simply click the name of the campaign to open the Response and Click-Through window. Remember that most response activity will occur within 72 hours after a campaign is sent.
  29. Industry average open rates for HTML emails with a high ratio of graphics to text are generally in the range of 10% to 15%. The industry average click-through rate for a promotion is in the range of 1%-2%.
  30. On the Database tab click Create List. Create a Custom List using All Companies as the market group, give your list a name, and click Create List. On the next page click the Edit link on the left-hand side (beside Company Options). Place checkmarks in all six boxes under Hiring Frequency. Then click Edit on the left-hand side beside Emailer Options. Select the appropriate options for your email responses and click Save.
